Biography

Sanna Kannasto was a Finnish-origin labor speaker jailed after a May 10, 1925 speech at Hibbing, Minnesota. The May 20 Duluth dispatch in the May 22 Daily Worker reports that federal Judge W. A. Cant refused to reduce $10,000 bail under the wartime passport law and that a separate accusation of illegal entry from Canada carried no bail. She was still being held when the dispatch was written. The report says she had lived in the United States and Canada for twenty years and disputes an informant’s claim about participation in the Finnish civil war. Threatened deportation to Finland is not recorded as an accomplished removal. May 10 is an arrest date; no separately proved physical-admission or discharge endpoint or complete term is invented.
