Biography

Samuel Brodkin was a leader of Newarks Communist carpenters local, husband of Rebecca Brodkin and father of Lucille and Rose. Grover names him among 23 people arrested across three Communist election rallies in summer 1932 at Charlton and Spruce streets, where police used nightsticks to break up the meetings. This establishes an individual arrest but not which rally or exact day, charge, sentence or completed detention length.
