Biography

Sam Ross was the Stuyvesant local organizer of the Workers Alliance in New York. The December 8, 1936 Daily Worker names him among organizers arrested on November 12 in a demonstration at District 17 Emergency Relief Bureau, 318 East 32nd Street, against a relief blacklist and for winter clothing. Twelve of twenty-six arrested demonstrators were due for sentencing before Magistrate Overton Harris on December 8; fourteen others had been dismissed. The scheduled sentencing is not evidence of its actual outcome. The source gives no individual release, jail, charge wording or actual time served.
