Biography
Rodolfo “Rudy” Sanchez was a member of La Casa de Carnalismo, an East Los Angeles organization that opposed heroin dealing in the barrio. He, Alberto Ortiz, and Juan Fernandez became known as Los Tres del Barrio after a July 22, 1971 confrontation with an undercover federal narcotics agent. A federal jury convicted them later that year. Sanchez received a 40-year sentence. He was released on $50,000 bail pending appeal in November 1973, after more than two years in custody. The available sources do not establish whether he returned to prison after the appeal or the final endpoint of the case.
Workers Vanguard’s February 1, 1974 report states that Los Tres del Barrio were physically released on bail during November 7–9, 1973, pending appeal of the sentences imposed by Judge Lawrence Lydick. The report does not identify which of those three dates applies to each man. The shared release window is preserved without assigning an invented individual day.
