Biography
Robert Gillmore was the New York secretary of the American Friends Service Committee and chairman of the local Committee for Non-Violent Action. Police arrested him on May 6, 1958 with eight other demonstrators who refused to take shelter during a compulsory civil-defense drill to protest preparations for nuclear war. The court imposed a suspended thirty-day sentence, so he did not serve a jail term in this case.
