Biography
Carmen Dolores Otero de Torresola was a member of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party prosecuted in the second federal mass trial that followed the March 1954 attack on the United States House of Representatives. The government charged Nationalist organizers with seditious conspiracy as part of an alleged campaign to end United States rule in Puerto Rico by force. A jury convicted Carmen Dolores Otero de Torresola in 1955, and the court imposed a prison sentence of 4 years.
Age and arrest-group identification in November 1954
The November 3, 1954 Laisvė, page 4, names Carmen Dolores Otero Torresola, aged 25, among twelve newly arrested Puerto Rican Nationalists after the first thirteen defendants had been sentenced. It identifies her as the widow of Griselio Torresola, who was shot during the 1950 attempt against President Truman. This corroborates the separate 1954 prosecution and preserves her reported age as a birth-date research lead. It gives neither an exact birth date nor an arrest, jail-admission or release day. Age 25 in this report must not be converted to an exact birth year or used to date a different 1950 episode.

Dávila Marichal reports that Carmen Dolores Otero de Torresola was arrested in New York on November 2, 1950, held in the women’s detention facility after $50,000 bail was set, and released on December 23, 1950. This is a separate episode from the existing 1954 prosecution; the source identifies her as Griselio Torresola’s widow.
