Biography

Ray Singer was a Furniture Workers Industrial Union member jailed in the Jersey City campaign against Mayor Frank Hague’s ban on Miller Furniture strike picketing. Judge William J. McGovern sentenced three women to thirty days in First Criminal Court on Friday June 22, 1934. The editorial explicitly describes jailing for peaceful picketing. The nominal thirty days is not a completed served total and no actual discharge date is established.
