Biography
Ramon Tancioco chaired the Portland defense committee for members of the Filipino cannery workers’ union, later ILWU Local 37. Immigration agents took him to the county jail in early 1951 under the McCarran Act. Community and union protests secured his release on bail about a week later, but the surviving account does not give exact dates. A deportation order was upheld administratively on February 19, 1952, then ultimately defeated with the other Local 37 cases.
