Biography
One of the Vieques 4, sentenced in 1979 to federal prison for protesting US Navy bombing on Vieques. He served his sentence alongside Angel Rodríguez Cristóbal, whose death in custody became a major rallying point for the independence movement. Documented in PFOC Breakthrough magazine.
El Mundo reported on November 27, 1979 that Juan Marí Brás was denied a visit to Ismael Guadalupe and Ramón Alicea while both were serving their Vieques-related sentences at the federal penitentiary in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. This identifies a documented prison phase, not the location of every day in custody. Police reports dated February 21, 1980 record the two men’s actual homecoming at Isla Verde airport after federal imprisonment; the date of the homecoming is not treated as an exact prison discharge date.
