Biography
Raimundo Díaz Pacheco was a Puerto Rican Nationalist organizer and commander of the Cadets of the Republic. Born in Trujillo Alto, he worked in the sugar industry and joined the Cadets in 1932. He was prosecuted for conspiring to kill federal judge Robert A. Cooper and imprisoned at La Princesa before transfer to the federal penitentiary at Leavenworth, Kansas, where he was prisoner 52500. After returning to Puerto Rico he resumed Nationalist organizing. He was killed during the October 30, 1950 attack on La Fortaleza.
The chronology individually names Raimundo Díaz Pacheco among ten Nationalists arrested on August 25, 1937 in the prosecution concerning an alleged June 8 attempt against Judge Robert A. Cooper. It then dates the five-year prison sentences for Díaz Pacheco and his co-defendants to January 10, 1938. These are arrest and sentencing dates; the five-year imposed term is not a measured period actually served, and no precise prison admission or discharge is supplied.
The Cuban committee’s April 12, 1939 manifesto individually lists him as actually confined at Leavenworth. This is contemporary prison-location evidence, not an admission date, a completed sentence or a new arrest. The pamphlet was published in December 1939 and reprints documents of several different dates.
