Biography

A worker printed only as Press was clubbed and jailed June 7, 1934 in the Brownsville relief struggle. The June 16 report announced a June 28 trial, without a given name, precise charge, actual disposition or physical release. Identity with other people named Press is unestablished. Daily Worker, June 16, 1934, page 3. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1934/v11-n144-jun-16-1934-DW-LOC.pdf#page=3

A June 20, 1934 report supplies the first initial J. for the same Brownsville relief worker Press, whose June 7 clubbing and jail episode is already recorded. It reports that after he joined a delegation to Police Commissioner O’Ryan, two officers summoned him to a precinct and threatened hospital injury or death on a future occasion. The report gives no full forename or new completed arrest. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1934/v11-n147-jun-20-1934-DW-LOC.pdf#page=2
