Biography
Phil Block was a needle-trades union militant subjected to extrajudicial confinement in New York. The Daily Worker of February 18, 1930, page 2, reports that on February 17 supporters of the rival ILGWU organization took Phil Block and Sol Schulman by force to Arlington Hall, demanded that they register and pay $10 each, and later beat them after both refused. The report alleges active police cooperation: an officer stopped Block’s escape, and other police insisted he accompany the men. This is the newspaper’s account of political abduction and private confinement with police assistance, rather than a documented jail admission or formal prosecution. No exact detention duration or prison sentence is established. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1930/v06-n297-NY-feb-18-1930-DW-LOC.pdf
