Biography
Peter Garmolinsky was an unemployed New York worker seeking additional relief beyond thirty cents a day. The Daily Worker of March 2, 1935, page 2, reports police attacks on two occasions, beating, arrest and commitment to Bellevue Hospital, followed by a Corporation Counsel petition to place him in a state insane asylum. The paper says his political statements and support for hotel co-workers were used against him. After hearings Thursday and Friday, Supreme Court Justice McGeeghan dismissed the petition on March 1, 1935 and declared him sane. That decision defeated the proposed further commitment; the article does not provide the exact dates of arrest or physical discharge. Allegations of political misuse of psychiatric proceedings are attributed to the newspaper. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1935/v12-n053-NAT-mar-02-1935-DW-Q.pdf
