Biography

Peter Almeida remained jailed after the July 1970 New Bedford Panther raid.

Peter Almeida was confined at the Billerica House of Corrections in lieu of $10,000 bail after a raid on a Black Panther office. In September 1971 he and Robert “Big Bob” Heard were convicted of arson over the burning of mattresses during a protest against round-the-clock confinement in small cells. They received six-month sentences. This prison-protest prosecution was separate from the New Bedford raid case; the report does not establish the actual release date or completed time served.
