Biography
Percy Green II is a St. Louis civil rights organizer associated with CORE and ACTION. His campaigns challenged racial exclusion in employment and civic institutions. He and Richard Daly climbed the unfinished Gateway Arch in July 1964 to protest discrimination in construction hiring. Green was bailed out that evening, so that arrest is not treated as a multi-day jail stay. The Nine PBS documentary Percy Green: Man of ACTION includes a recollection of a separate 90-day stay in the St. Louis Workhouse for civil disobedience, also reported in a review by film critic Diane Carson. The specific protest, formal charge and custody dates for that longer stay have not been established. Its reported duration is preserved in the narrative rather than presented as an independently verified exact counter.
