Biography

Marshall describes P. S. Reader, a Macoupin County, Illinois farmer, as arrested August 12, 1862. He was held at Camp Butler for about a fortnight and then at Old Capitol Prison, and released after about eight weeks on a fifty-thousand-dollar bond. The chapter spells his surname Reader while the contents uses Reeder; the source does not expand his initials. Source: John A. Marshall, American Bastile (1869), printed pages 317-320, https://archive.org/details/americanbastile00marsgoog/page/n330/mode/2up. Marshall is a partisan retrospective source; its allegations are attributed to the author.
