Biography
Olive Armstrong was one of the New York 8+ grand-jury resisters jailed for refusing to testify in the investigation of Black political activists. Contemporary reporting and a federal court opinion establish confinement over several months in 1985 and her release that July.
Verified civil-contempt custody
The original June 1985 Death to the Klan!, physical page 8, printed page 9 individually names Armstrong among those jailed January 21, 1985. The group photograph is captioned with different defendants, not Armstrong, and is not used as her portrait. Matter of Cocilovo, 618 F. Supp. 1378, 1380 explicitly lists Armstrong's release on July 31, 1985, docket M-11-188 (GLG). The authorized official BOP lookup uniquely identifies Olive Armstrong, 10819-054, and independently confirms that federal custody endpoint. The September 27, 1985 contemporary report, page 12 describes the release more broadly as early August; this discrepancy is retained rather than used to manufacture a different exact date. Existing dates are retained. Civil-contempt confinement does not by itself establish a separate criminal arrest; no such date is invented.
