Biography

Norman Smith was named among six NorthHarlem relief delegates arrested June23,1932 while seeking help for an evicted family, with HenryShepard. All were charged with disorderly conduct. No individual sentence or discharge is supplied here. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1932/v09-n150-NY-jun-24-1932-DW-LOC.pdf#page=1

Page2 reports Shepard sentenced June24,1932 to five days for the NorthHarlem relief delegation, with similar sentences for the other named delegates. The Campbell member is now called Lawrence Campbell, Communist state-senate candidate for the 20th district, whereas the previous day printed Louis Campbell; the identical delegation context supports the linkage but the name discrepancy is retained. The imposed five-day terms are not measured completed service.
