Biography

Nick Woles was a Brooklyn worker and longtime janitor evicted from 750 Driggs Avenue on Monday, May 18, 1931. The Daily Worker of May 20, page 1, reports that neighbors restored his furniture to the apartment, after which landlord Cooper called police and had Woles arrested. Released on $500 bail, he sought help from the Williamsburg Tenants League and appeared in Bridge Plaza Court with a League member defending him. The judge discharged him. The account establishes arrest, bail release and discharge but does not print a formal charge or reliable exact day for the latter two events.
