Contempt custody and temporary furlough
The Militant,December16,1988,printed11 confirms June15,1988 detention. The Insurgent,Summer1989,printed17 reports January31 courtorderedrelease and an intervening three-weekfurlough aroundAugust1988. Exact furlough dates and a reusable identified portrait remainunresolved. Civilcontempt and surrender are not treated as a separatelyverifiedcriminalarrest.
The Summer 1988 Insurgent identifies Nelson Ramirez as a former president of the Puerto Rican Student Union at Hunter College and a community organizer active in the National Committee to Free Puerto Rican Prisoners of War. It reports his June 15 surrender at the federal courthouse in Brooklyn and lists him at MCC New York. The previously documented three-week furlough interrupted the overall stay; the elapsed endpoints cannot support a continuous 230-day counter.
