Biography
Nazmi Jamiel was an anti-fascist worker arrested while picketing the German consulate in a Free Thaelmann demonstration on July 14, 1934. The Daily Worker, August 23, 1934, page 1 reports that immigration authorities ordered his deportation and that the Committee for Protection of Foreign Born was fighting for his freedom. An order is not evidence that deportation occurred. Exact jail admission, release and final disposition are unreported.
Daily Worker, July 16, 1934, page 2: The paper identifies Jamiel, a thirty-four-year-old Turkish worker, as arrested by the alien squad Saturday while participating in the Free Thaelmann demonstration outside the German consulate at 17 Battery Place, New York. He was held for deportation on an illegal-entry accusation. Saturday resolves to July 14 and corroborates the existing episode. The item supplies actual detention and the alleged immigration basis, not proof of a completed deportation or an exact release. It does not name him Ahmet Jamil.
