Biography

Murray Gassman was arrested during the All White Laundry strike at 46 West 98th Street, New York. Page 3 of the August 9, 1934 Daily Worker says the Laundry Workers’ Industrial Union led the strike and alleges that the Edelstein brothers used police to arrest Gassman on a fabricated charge to break the workers’ ranks. The laundry was also known as Central Park West and Radio Laundry; its work was being diverted to Sea White Laundry. The underlying statutory charge and any adjudication or discharge are not supplied. Enlarged original establishes Gassman; this is not printer Murray Melvin.
