Biography
Morris Dolinsky was an unemployed mechanic who had lost a leg and helped organize New York City’s League of the Physically Handicapped. On May 29, 1935, he joined a sit-in at Emergency Relief Bureau headquarters demanding an end to discrimination against disabled workers in relief employment. He remained in the building with Hyman Abramowitz and Pauline Portugalo until June 6, when they were carried out on stretchers. The league continued organizing demonstrations and pressing for access to government jobs.
