Biography
Monsour Owolabi is a New Afrikan poet, writer and prisoner-organizer serving life without parole in Texas since 2011 on a murder conviction he contests. Politicized inside, he has organized around prison slave labor and solidarity campaigns, published essays and poetry (Scalawag, Texas Letters), and been held in prolonged isolation that supporters describe as retaliation for his organizing.
Official custody review October 13, 2026: The TDCJ record for Monsour G. Owolabi, 01856112 confirms the existing May 10, 2013 capital-murder sentence, life without parole, and no scheduled release. The listed August 16, 2011 offense day is not entered as arrest or admission. The year-only admission cannot support the legacy exact running duration, which has been cleared. Exact arrest/admission dates remain unresolved; a release date is appropriately blank while current custody continues.
The State’s appellate brief filed December 20, 2013, in appeal 14-13-00433-CR, printed page 1 (PDF page 8), records a not-guilty plea to the capital-murder indictment and the May 10, 2013 life-without-parole sentence. The offense date August 16, 2011 is not an admission date. The brief’s cover and statement of the case disagree about the trial district number, so no judge or court field is inferred. The named attorneys are appellate counsel, not necessarily trial prosecutors; the existing blank trial-prosecutor field is preserved.
