Biography

Mildred Rackley led artists and models protesting denial of WPA Federal Art Project jobs in New York. The May 16, 1936 Daily Worker names her at the ongoing three-day protest and explicitly states that all the protesting artists and models had been arrested and many beaten. The collective beating statement is not assigned to Rackley individually. No formal charge, exact arrest day, judicial outcome or complete custody duration is given.
