Biography

Mildred Martínez was imprisoned during the 1979 Vieques campaign against U.S. Navy operations. The January–February 1980 New Movement bulletin names Martínez among six Vieques resisters and documents federal imprisonment. Wilfredo Vélez Hernández’s first-person memoir describes Martínez’s imprisonment at the women’s prison in Vega Alta and subsequent transportation alongside Emilia Rodríguez and Lourdes Melecio.

These sources confirm physical imprisonment. The contemporary bulletin and the November–December 1999 El Machete chronology support a May 19, 1979 arrest date. They do not establish an individual sentence or precise admission and release dates. A fuller surname found in archival rosters remains a separate identity lead, rather than an additional person or an established name for this profile.
