Biography

Michael Harris, a North Carolina member of Families United Against Police Brutality, came to Akron to support Jayland Walker’s family and was arrested July 6, 2022.

The complaint describes his detention in Summit County Jail through the nights of July 6 and 7, followed by July 8 arraignment and release. It reports acquittal of all charges on February 23, 2023. This is a different person from the Des Moines Black Panther Michael Harris imprisoned in the 1960s. Allegations of excessive force are attributed to the complaint.

The allegations are attributed to plaintiffs’ June 29, 2023 civil complaint; they are not findings that the defendants are liable. Source: Harris et al. v. City of Akron, No. 5:23-cv-01290, complaint, PDF pages 50, 51, 52, 53, 54. This historical source does not establish present custody status.
