Biography

Borough Park Unemployed Council leader and Communist Assembly candidate Max Schnapp had just finished his jail sentence and was to speak September 21 in support of Ferrera. Both had been jailed after a relief demonstration at the Home Relief Bureau at Albemarle Road and Gravesend Avenue. The paper supplies neither exact intake/discharge dates nor the length or charge of Schnapp’s sentence. The August 29, 1932 Daily Worker reports a twenty-day workhouse sentence for Schnapp’s relief demonstration. Its September 8 issue prints his signed Welfare Island jail letter and expressly says he was then serving that term. These reports establish the imposed term and institution, without exact physical endpoints or a measured completed twenty-day interval.
