Matthew Gillett was an elderly Wellington, Ohio farmer. Matthew Gillett was one of the twenty men committed to the Cuyahoga County Jail for the 1858 Oberlin–Wellington Rescue of the freedom-seeker John Price. The court allowed the aged Gillett to leave about May 14, 1859.
