Biography

Jacob R. Shipherd was one of the twenty men committed to the Cuyahoga County Jail for the 1858 Oberlin–Wellington Rescue of the freedom-seeker John Price. His indictment was dismissed on April 25, 1859 because the grand jury had seriously misstated his name. (indicted under the misstated name "James R. Shepard")
