Biography

Matthew De Wolfe was a defendant in the 1858 Oberlin–Wellington Rescue of the freedom-seeker John Price. On May 12, 1859 he was sentenced to 24 hours in the county jail, a fine and costs.

The contemporary Rescue history records a twenty-four-hour jail sentence and fine on May 12, 1859. No longer individually documented confinement was established in this review; Matthew Gillett’s custody is not De Wolfe’s.
