Biography
Marc Boyd was arrested in Kalispell for selling a Daily Worker issue containing Ruby Bates’s letter repudiating her Scottsboro testimony. The February 1934 Labor Defender places this arrest in March 1933 and gives the accusation as distributing indecent literature. It supplies no exact day, conviction, prison admission, release or measured custody. The name is retained as printed and is not identified with the Kansas wartime prisoner E. M. Boyd. Page 3 prints Mark Boyd as the Kalispell Daily Worker agent arrested for distributing the February 13 issue carrying Ruby Bates’s repudiation of her Scottsboro testimony. The accusation is distributing indecent literature. The distinctive place, newspaper issue and accusation match the existing Marc Boyd account; the contemporary February 26 dispatch precedes the retrospective Labor Defender claim of March 1933. The conflict is preserved without inventing an exact arrest day or another arrest. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1933/v010-n049-NY-feb-26-1933-DW-LOC.pdf
