Biography

Manuel Fernandez, identified in the November 2, 1932 Tampa report as a former International Labor Defense organizer known as Colino, was still in U.S. immigration custody in the December 16 account. The November report announced a proposed route via Savannah to Ellis Island for deportation to Spain. The later article explicitly places him on Ellis Island after ILD habeas corpus action took him off a deportation ship. This establishes continued detention and an interrupted removal, not actual arrival in Spain or freedom. Exact arrest, admission, ship-removal day and complete duration remain unknown. This qualified record preserves the Tampa identity without an unsupported merger with the 1957 sailor Manuel Fernandez Rodriguez.
