Biography

Louis Skaroff was an Everett free-speech activist arrested during the Industrial Workers of the World campaign supporting shingle workers. Vern Smith’s 1929 retrospective describes deputies holding Skaroff’s hands under iron bed casters in a prison cell while Mayor D. D. Merrill repeatedly jumped on the bed, and says Skaroff displayed his injured hands during the later Everett trial. These are attributed allegations. The article gives no exact arrest, release or complete duration. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1929/1929-ny/v06-n127-NY-aug-03-1929-DW-LOC.pdf#page=6
