Biography

Louis Jaffe was a Newark carpenters-union leader and close associate of Morris Langer. Warren Grover identifies him among seven speakers arrested after police barred the November 10, 1927 Bolshevik-anniversary meeting at Ukrainian Hall,57 Beacon Street. They were charged as disorderly persons and collectively held under $950 bond. The history also names Jaffe and his wife Esther among those arrested during three Communist election rallies at Charlton and Spruce streets in summer 1932. The source supplies no exact summer arrest day, individual charge or complete custody duration for the later event.
