Biography

Lonnie C. King Jr. was a Morehouse College student and cofounder of the Committee on Appeal for Human Rights who led the Atlanta student movement. Police arrested him with Martin Luther King Jr. and other students during the Rich’s department-store sit-in on October 19, 1960. The students refused bail and remained in the Fulton County jail until October 23, when they were released under a truce arranged by Mayor William Hartsfield.
