Biography

Marshall identifies Levi Cohn as one of three New York State civilian agents arrested in Washington on October 27, 1864 and confined at the Old Capitol/Carrol Prison. They were tried by a military commission over alleged fraudulent soldiers' voting papers. The reproduced decision acquits all three of the charge. Cohn served as a State paymaster. The account records his release on February 8, 1865, after continued detention following acquittal. Source: John A.
