Biography
Lena Davis Scherer was a Russian-born New York resident married to labor organizer Marcel Scherer. Immigration authorities arrested her in April 1958 for deportation on an allegation of current Communist Party membership. She was released on $2,500 bail while the government disputed her claim to citizenship derived from her naturalized father. The exact arrest and release days remain unresolved.
