Biography
Peter Harisiades was a Greek-born labor journalist who had lived in the United States since 1916. Immigration authorities took him into custody at Ellis Island on May 20, 1949 under a deportation warrant based on his former Communist Party membership. He was held without bail for sixty-four days and then released pending habeas review. The Supreme Court upheld the deportation order on March 10, 1952.
