Biography

Lawrence Rosebaugh was an Oblate priest born in Appleton, Wisconsin, ordained 1963; co-founder of a Catholic Worker house in Milwaukee when he joined the September 24, 1968 Milwaukee 14 raid that burned ~10,000 Selective Service files. Served 14 months in Wisconsin state prison (1969-70). Spent the rest of his life as a missionary among the poor in Brazil, El Salvador, Mexico, and Guatemala. Murdered by armed robbers on a rural highway in northern Guatemala on May 18, 2009.

1983 Fort Benning custody clarified

Nuclear Resister 19, August 23, 1983, printed page 2, records earlier base detentions and releases, then dates FBI arrest of Larry Rosebaugh, Roy Bourgeois and Linda Ventimiglia August 12. They refused bail agreements and remained in county jail. The September 30 follow-up, printed page 4, reports conviction and fifteen-month sentences for Rosebaugh and Ventimiglia while still awaiting federal-prison transfers. Scheduled roster release dates are not proof of actual discharge. Rosebaugh's separate Pantex and Milwaukee cases remain unchanged.

Official federal endpoint

The BOP inmate locator, queried October 12, 2026 with register 11386-077, returned LARRY ROSEBAUGH, not in BOP custody as of September 25, 1984. The March 28, 1984 roster independently identifies Larry with that register. The earlier 81020-020 roster number and the full-name Lawrence Rosebaugh search returned no match; absence alone does not disprove historical custody. The federal endpoint does not establish the end of supervision or another jurisdiction's custody.

Separate February 1985 missile-silo vigil detention

The report individually names Art Laffin, Father Larry Rosebaugh and Patrick Mulvehill as arrested for state trespass after crossing the field fence near the N-5 silo during a February 18, 1985 support vigil. All three remained in jail pending a March 1 hearing, unlike Miriam Olsen and Bobbie Plante, who posted bond. This establishes a distinct actual multi-night 1985 custody episode for Lawrence Rosebaugh, not an extension of a previous Pantex, Fort Benning, Trident Nein or 1983 workhouse stay. The future hearing is not actual release, and no final duration is inferred. Larry is the source’s familiar name for the existing Lawrence Rosebaugh; no new person is created.

Contemporary1985 custody follow-up

The April16 follow-up explicitly says this individually named supporter remained jailed and fasted eleven days before the March1,1985 bench trial, which ended in conviction and a time-served sentence. The issue lists the person recently released. Eleven is actual reported confinement, not the nominal sentence or a duration copied from another case. The hearing/time-served date is not automatically treated as the exact physical-release day.

The September23,1983 Criterion contemporaneous report individually names Larry Rosebaugh, Linda Ventimiglia and Roy Bourgeois and reports U.S.District Judge Robert Elliott imposed fifteen months on each after the six-hour FortBenning trial on September14,1983. This supplies the sentencing day for the existing1983 episode; the imposed term does not establish actual admission, physical release or completed service.

Incarcerated: Aug 12, 1983

Sentence: Fifteen-month sentence reported in the September 30, 1983 Nuclear Resister, not independently verified actual time served. The August 23 original report dates FBI arrest and county-jail detention August 12, 1983 after intervening releases from military custody. Authorized official BOP lookup on October 12, 2026 returned LARRY ROSEBAUGH, register 11386-077, not in BOP custody as of September 25, 1984. This number is independently named on the contemporary March 28, 1984 roster; the December 3 issue confirms he was recently out. The endpoint denotes departure from BOP custody, not independently verified termination of parole, supervision or every other jurisdiction's custody. Precise sentencing day remains unset. Custody start includes pretrial jail detention, not a separately documented federal-prison admission. Earlier August 9 overnight custody and August 11 evening detention ended in releases and must not be represented as continuous incarceration.
