Biography

Edmund Basil O'Leary was a De La Salle Christian Brother and professor of economics at Saint Mary's College in Winona, Minnesota when he joined the September 24, 1968 Milwaukee 14 raid. Served 14 months in Wisconsin state prison after the May 1969 jury verdict. Returned to academic life and later chaired the Center for Nonviolence at Saint Mary's.

The interview with Notre Dame’s acting nonviolence-program coordinator identifies Basil O’Leary with the Milwaukee14 draft-file burning and expressly says he spent a year in the Wisconsin correctional system. The year is a reported actual-service unit, not a nominal sentence or a newly calculated365days. He discusses pretrial-jail injustice, structural oppression, hunger and nonviolent education after imprisonment. The article supplies no exact physical admission or discharge and does not displace more precise independent records.
