Biography
Lawrence Johnson was arrested in a police raid at the Communist Party headquarters at 200 Ellicott Street in Buffalo on Saturday night, October 25, 1930. The Daily Worker of October 28, page 2, in a dispatch dated October 27, individually names the people arrested there, reports disorderly-conduct charges, and says they were held incommunicado. It describes the raid as following police action against a Lafayette Square meeting advertising William Z. Foster’s election appearance. The report supplies no individual verdict, sentence, place of jail confinement or eventual release; no political membership is inferred merely from presence at the headquarters.
