Biography
Larry White was a Chicago Black Panther arrested after the July 31, 1969 police siege of the party’s West Madison Street office. Three Panthers held the office during an exchange of gunfire, then surrendered after running out of ammunition. They were beaten and jailed on attempted-murder charges, with bail set at $20,000 each. The party organized a defense campaign for the three.
In an interview attributed to Bobby Rush, the newspaper identifies Larry White, Pete Haymon and Alvin Jeffries as the three Panthers arrested for attempted murder after the Chicago office gunfight. It reports bail set at $20,000 each and an effort to obtain the cash needed for bonds. This is a bail requirement, not proof that bail was furnished or the men were released; the relative-date account is not used to overwrite the existing arrest date.
