Biography
Kenjyo Ohara, also recorded as Kenjo Ohara, was a Buddhist priest at Olaa Hongwanji Mission who arrived in Hawaii as a young missionary in spring 1941. JCCH records his birth year as 1916. His individual record documents arrest in April 1942, confinement at Kilauea Military Camp, transfer to Oahu in June 1942 through the Honolulu Immigration Station and Sand Island, and mainland transfer in June 1942. He was confined at Angel Island June-July 1942, Lordsburg July 1942-March 1943 and Santa Fe March 1943-December 1945. He returned to Honolulu aboard Shawnee in December 1945 and resumed temple service. His confinement formed part of US wartime incarceration of people of Japanese ancestry; the cited record establishes no individual criminal conviction.
