Biography
Kazuyuki Kawano was an Issei Waipahu resident, owner of Kawano General Store and board member of the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce. JCCH records his birth year as 1889. His individual record documents arrest in May 1942, Honolulu Immigration Station and Sand Island custody, mainland transfer June 1942, Angel Island June-July 1942, Lordsburg July 1942-June 1943 and Santa Fe June 1943-November 1944. The archive then records parole to Grand Junction, Colorado, without a separate precise parole date, and return to Hawaii aboard Shawnee in December 1945. Parole is distinguished from physical camp confinement. His postwar work included joining the charter board of Central Pacific Bank. This was administrative US wartime civilian confinement in the context of Japanese ancestry. No individual criminal conviction or imposed judicial sentence is established; exact arrest, parole and release days are not documented.
