Biography
Katherine “KteeO” Olejnik was jailed for civil contempt after refusing to testify before a federal grand jury investigating the 2012 Seattle May Day protests and anarchist organizing. She was taken into custody on September 27, 2012 and held at the Federal Detention Center in SeaTac, including periods in solitary confinement, although she was never charged with an underlying crime. Judge Richard A. Jones ordered her release after concluding that continued confinement would not coerce her testimony, and she was released on February 28, 2013.
October 2012 reporting identifies Olejnik as an Evergreen College graduate and Olympia bartender. She studied for law-school admission while confined and refused to testify despite immunity. The reporting distinguished her from suspects in the courthouse vandalism.
