Biography

Julian Schuman was a correspondent and staff writer for the China Monthly Review. A federal grand jury indicted him, John W. Powell and Sylvia Powell on April 25, 1956 for sedition over the magazine’s Korean War reporting. The 1959 trial ended in a mistrial, and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy abandoned the remaining prosecution in 1961. Schuman remained free on bail; no confinement was established.
