May 1983 jail custody independently documented
In her own October 1983 Sojourners article, Joyce Hollyday describes being jailed in Washington, D.C. after the May Peace Pentecost witness at the Capitol. Her publicly available preview describes the first night, the following morning's move from intake to the gym cellblock, and another night there. This establishes an actual May 1983 custody episode, distinct from the existing undated 1984–1990 protest summary. The admission was initially stored at month precision and has now been refined to May 23, 1983 using the fuller firsthand account below. Exact release and completed duration remain unverified. Joyce Hollyday, Get Used To It, October 1983. The indexed public preview was reviewed; direct retrieval failed, and the subscription-only remainder was not accessed.
Her own biographical account separately recalls several weekends in D.C. jail for protests against Central American wars and the nuclear arms race, but does not date each stay. It is not used to calculate endpoints. Her existing photograph and later protest summary remain unchanged. Author's own biography.
Exact May 23 admission from a fuller firsthand account
Hollyday's Bathed in the Spirit, August 1983, dates the Capitol action Monday, May 23, describes the arrests, immediate cellblock detention, overnight custody and subsequent court proceedings. This establishes May 23, 1983 as arrest and initial detention. Her narrative reports continued jail time after sentencing, but no individual release day. The five-day imposed term is not treated as a complete served interval. The generic later protest-summary row is unchanged and not counted as another stay.
