Biography

Page 1 identifies Joseph P. Klein, Communist Party section organizer, as recently arrested on vagrancy charges in the Virginia campaign of arrests accompanying Alexander Wright’s election tour. It explicitly says Hudson and Klein had later been released and fines in two other unnamed cases were under appeal; those other fines are not assigned to either named man. Page 2 reports troops arrested him while leading a picket line at the Powell Mill in Lyman, South Carolina. He was taken to military headquarters in Greenville and escorted out of the state; a guard officer threatened to bayonet him if he returned. This September textile-strike detention is separate from his earlier Virginia vagrancy arrest. No criminal judgment or complete custody duration is given.
