Biography
John Waubanascum Jr. was a Vietnam veteran and Menominee Warrior Society leader. He took part in the 34-day occupation of the Alexian Brothers Novitiate near Gresham, Wisconsin, which sought to obtain the unused property for the Menominee community. Waubanascum surrendered with the other occupiers on February 3, 1975, was arrested and taken to jail, and was held on $50,000 bail on armed-robbery, armed-burglary, false-imprisonment and endangering-life charges. He was later released on bond, but the exact release date has not been located. Waubanascum was killed by a police officer on February 3, 1976 before his case went to trial.
